ARTIST PROFILE Noelene Bending Noelene was born in Wyndham- East Kimberley in 1969. She is a talented artist and an accomplished carver and artefact maker. She has always lived in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and is a dedicated young woman who is definitely bound to succeed. Noelene is the mother of six children and formerly worked for many years at Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Services and now works with Community Health Group. Her language group is Mirriuwong/ Ngaliwurru- the latter group being from over the Northern Territory Border at Timber Creek in the Bradshaw area. She is closely related to Sam Lovell- the well known guide for the Bradshaw (art) area of the Northern Territory. Noelene has had the advantage of learning from the best - she is a member of two of the most renowned painting families in the East Kimberley - those of Paddy Carlton (dcd.) and Alan Griffiths who both commenced painting in ochre with Jack Britten- Rover Thomas- Hector Jandany (all dcd) at the inception o

Billy worked firstly as a ringer then stockman on Inverway- Nicholson- Mistake Creek Stations. After an accident during his stock work days- an injury to his knee forced Billy to change to working on farms in the area. He is of Jaru (desert) skin- however his medium is ochre. He paints the country where he worked as a stockman- but now resides in Kununurra. Billy is a renowned artefact maker and has been carving since he was a young lad on the cattle stations where he worked. Billy has been painting for approximately ten years - his works are well executed- and he completes both landscape and clever dot art pieces. He has endless stories and vast expanses of land yet to paint. His paintings and artefacts are much sought after and are included in major corporate and private collections – he is one of the few ochre dot art specialists executing this amazin
