"(Hunter Valley, NSW) This wine is a typically medium-bodied Shiraz grown in the Pokolbin region of the Hunter Valley from established vines. This elegant wine is typical of the region displaying ripe berry aromas with well integrated oak characters. A great food wine drinking well now, or suitable for medium term cellaring. James Halliday, arguably Australia's most famous and acclaimed wine critic, wrote about the Pokolbin Dry Red in his latest publication, The Australian Wine Companion 2009, saying, ""The return of the classic Dry Red and Private Bin Dry Red labels brings back memories of the great wines of the 1950's and 60's, and is a sign of the continuing resurgence of this brand."" The 2006 vintage is sure to please, with rich ruby red colouring and soft berry flavours, balanced by ripe tannins and subtle oak.
