This is the first Grange to use grapes from the cool-climate Coonawarra district, in South Australia's far south-east. Koonunga Hill COLOUR Dark red with a solid core. NOSE Aromatic pepper and spice typical of Shiraz is evident with fruit driven notes of blueberry and plums and a subtle hint of spicy oak. PALATE On the palate the wine is generous yet medium bodied. Red fruits of raspberry and cherry is carried by ripe, round tannins finishing with just a hint of cedar oak to finish. This wine is a little surprise packet. It is an exceptional wine that is bursting with fruit and flavour. It surprised me as it is a red from the Clare Valley and I was a little bit worried that it could be lacking a little flavour and body although it is a little young it stands up fairly well. It has lovely plum and berry flavours which cover the palate and hints of fine integrated oak arrive at the end to allow a lovely finish with hits of dark chocolate. It is great value and a few bottles
