Chenin Blanc is a deliciously aromatic white grape variety with origins in the French region of the Loire Valley where it's grown on the slopes of Vouvray and Saumur. Brown Brothers have been pioneers in planting this exciting varietal and it's their Milawa estate vineyard that is used to source this sparkling interpretation of the style. With a nose of melon, citrus and spicy tropical fruit, the Chenin Bianco follows through with a palate that is fresh, vibrant with hints of fruitiness. Eight clones of Pinot Noir and four clones of Chardonnay were used in the 2005 Pelorus Vintage blend. Following harvest, the grapes were pressed without crushing and after a short settling period, the juice was racked into fermentation. A warm primary fermentation in a mixture of stainless steel tanks and large and small format old French oak vessels was followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The base wines were then aged for a further nine months on yeast lees prior to blending in October 2005. The final 60 per cent Pinot Noir and 40 per cent Chardonnay blend was tiraged in December 2005 using prise de mousse yeast and subsequently aged on lees for three years prior to disgorging in early 2009. The most classical of the Deutz cuvees is far from mundane. The three different champagne grapes are blended in equal and unchanging proportions, ensuring it shows perfect harmony. Its golden colour scintillates in the glass, with a fine stream of bubbles rising gracefully to the surface. The first impression on the nose are mellow and reminiscent of acacia flowers, confectionery, Reinette apples and brioche. The wine then fauns in volume and its silky texture reveals a successful balance between the freshness of Chardonnay, the fruitiness and structure of Pinot Noir and a touch of vinosity from the Pinot Meunier.

Fun and carefree is the theme with this cheeky little bubbly from Stonefish.
