The Mother Of All Games
Date of Review: Jul 4, 2000
I got the collector's edition. after waiting a few months on Software Etc's waiting list. I love this thing. It came with the game (obviously), a DVD with all of the trailers to Diablo 1&2, all of the trailers for Starcraft (including the ones for Brood Wars) and for Warcraft 3 (Which looks to be another hit). Along with all of that it came with a soundtrack to the game, A Dungeons and Dragons version of the game (For use I guess if you are away from your computer), and last but not least it had a massive but really cool box. All of this came to me for only about $10.00 more than the normal game. Kick Ass.
When I went up to Software Etc, I stood in line behind two or three other people. Waiting impatiently for my turn to first touch this masterpiece of computer entertainment. I got over to my friend's house (which is where my computer was at the time) and My two friends and I played the game from 7:00 P.M. until sometime after the sun came up the next day.
The game: Diablo 1 had trouble hooking me, the most fun I ever had with it was going on the the internet and taking people's ears. This one is very different. I can get stuck playing single player for hours on end. Incredible gameplay, good story, great specials for the characters (my favorite being the Necromancer and the Barbarian), over all this game kicks ass.
The other side of the coin: Someone please explain to me what I'm doing wrong. Could Someone PLEASE tell me why the hell I get lag. Also Why is it that after playing the game for about an hour I get booted to the desktop???? It's kinda annoying. This is my computer. The original versions of Starcraft had an advertisement on the back of the booklet for the release of Diablo 2 in 1997. After 3 years why is this thing so buggy?
I know that all of this netgativity might lead you to believe this game isn't worth buying. don't believe that. This game is truly incredible I love it, but be prepared to save a lot.
My real computer stats:
Version Played: Retail
Operating System: Win98
CPU: AMD Athlon
CPU Speed: 700
RAM: 256
Video Card: Hercules 3D Prophet 2 GTS
I played single player a lot more than multiplayer
Learning Curve: Almost exactly like Diablo 1
Replay value: Officially Addicted
Graphics: Who cares as long as you can make out enemies.
Sound: Good enough
