Thinkpad R51 (2887K2G)

Date of Review: Aug 23, 2005

Don't know why I opted for IBM, but looking back now, it seems the only reasonable choice. My friends' bad experiences with ohter makers machines and good experiences with IBM helped the choice perhaps. I use it for home and school, and it delivers. What I love: on-screen manual, amazing keyboard, access connections program (and all thinkpad programs that make life easier), two mice, WLAN, Bluetooth, IR, Gigabit Ethernet, _cool_ looks, IBM quality, expandability (more RAM, bigger HDD, a better optical drive, bigger batteries etc), Active protection system. Nothing to complain about actually, you can get a more equipped laptop from F-S or Acer at this price but since I don't need a DVD-RW drive, wide screen or multicard reader, I didn't bother. If you double the price you can afford a T42 with the same gadgets in a smaller and lighter chassis, but if you don't travel all the time it's not worth it. The Pentium M 725 runs extremely quiet and cool, this one won't burn your wrists.

Pros
IBM quality, best keyboard, amazing management programs, connectivity, great battery life and low running temperature.
Cons
A bit heavy and big, but no surprise for a 15".
