Author's Review
I recently bought the $25 Koss KSC75s to replace a pair of Sony earbuds I use at work. They have now replaced the $150 headphones I use at home!
I have bought (and returned) many, many pairs of headphones but was struck dumb when I plugged in these for the first time. If I had paid five times more for these earphones I would be very happy indeed. Koss could be selling these for at least triple the price.
The KSC75s are clip-on earphones which fit around your ears kind of like a pair of glasses. I find them extremely comfortable and I easily forget they are on my ears. The build quality is not the best, but for the price is acceptable: They could be broken if you trip on them, vacuum over them etc. I would not recommend avoiding them due to this, just buy an extra pair in case :)
The sound quality of these earphones easily makes up for the build quality (or anything else that could possibly be a flaw). They have plenty of tight, punchy bass, super clear mid tones and sparkly highs. My favorite headphones were the Sennheiser HD470s, which cost 4 times as much. It took me a while to admit that the KSC75s actually sound better, but I believe they do!
I waste a lot of time listening to, researching, buying and returning headphones and speakers in the ultimate quest for the perfect reproduction of sound, but I believe this time it's paid off. For the stupid price of $25 or less, you could own a pair of KSC75s. I truly believe everyone deserves a pair of these. Take the risk, go buy some, you won't be disappointed, I'm going to buy more just in case!
Update: 09/28/2006. I've been listening to the Koss' every day for almost 2 months. They sound better every time I put them on. I believe I am finally satisfied, and don't feel I will ever buy any more phones (except more of these). Like I said before, go get some! You won't regret it.
Update: 05/20/2007. I bought a set of Grado SR-60's about 5 months ago, and am back to my Koss KSC75s. I'm planning to sell the grados.
I have 2 pairs of Koss KSC75's (one for work and one for home). Do yourself a favor and go get some, right now!
Update: 07/01/2007. One of my KSC75 sets got vacuumed up unfortunately, so I bought another two pairs. They sound as good as ever, please go get some, let me know if I am wrong!
Update 01/04/2008. I have been using my Grado SR-60s for a while. I put the KSC75s back on today, and once again I am completely blown away by the sound quality! (Just in case - I am not affiliated in any way with Koss). Awesome!
