Fantastic Speakers!!
Pros:
Remote, color coded wires, THX certified, they look great, fantastic clarity/balance
Cons:
Huge bass (not necessarily a con since the bass is controllable), hard wired front speakers
The Bottom Line:
If this is the price range you are working with, you can't do better than this set of speakers. They are fantastic!

Author's Review
First thing's first, these are some great speakers. I bought them because I heard they were the best, and so far, I cant disagree with everything I've heard. They look great, sound great, and are easy to use. When I first plugged them in, I ran through my usual list of songs/genres to test them out. Having a wide variety of music sound great on any given set of computer speakers isn't always going to happen, but I noticed right away that it was happening with these. Solo acoustic guitar, a capella, orchestras, reggae, rock, jazz, rap, techno - you name it, it will sound great on these speakers. The only thing is that if you are switching between a lot of styles of music, it really helps to use an equalizer in whatever program you are playing music through on your computer. Granted, the main thing that I had to adjust when changing music was the bass (and you can do that on the remote that comes with the system), but I still like to fine tune things with presets on an equalizer such as in iTunes. I'm not the kind of person who loves the typical enormous overwhelming sounding bass, and believe me, the sub in this system can easily do this and crank out a room shaking amount of bass. But it can also be used at a lower level and you can still achieve a balance that sounds GREAT. The front speakers give some incredible clarity. I heard things through these speakers that I've never been able to notice through regular speakers (things that you only notice when listening to headphones). Also, the front speakers sound very wide. Many speakers tend to sound like the music is just coming directly from the speaker, but these speakers sound like the music is coming from a wall of sound that spans about 3 feet in each direction of the speaker. I had a friend over to check them out, and he was looking around and said, "so where did you put the center speaker?" thinking there WAS a center speaker. Much to his amazement, the sound he heard in the 8 feet of space between the two speakers was actually just coming from those two.
Just buy them, you'll be happy.
