Not a great Console

Date of Review: Jul 12, 2002

The Bottom Line:  Go with its rival system(s) if your only getting one or two
I am not a big fan of Microsoft (I run Linux and Unix) yet I had to get this console because of its system specs to do with the cpu. Every one says this is the most powerful game console on the market. Indeed it does have the highest MHz rating; yet this means nothing to me. The chip is a little less powerful than the one based in the game cube. The game cube?s risc based IBM processor supports faster throughput, higher bandwidth, and runs cooler than the Intel cpu found in the Xbox. Not to mention the game cube processor runs faster mips wise also (mips= millions of instructions per second). The hard drive inside the console was an interesting option, yet why do you want something more to go wrong in your console. The added hard drive makes the system a little less durable than its two rival system (game cube, and PS2)?.

In the end for the price I would recommend to go with a PS/2 or a game cube

Pros
One game, Doa 3 and it has a nvidia GPu
Cons
non-risc based, small data path, intel cpu, over rated, no good RPG's, and more
