Ok game console, good media player
Date of Review: Nov 4, 2009
You can find these units for pretty cheap, the main reason being that unlike the more popular elite model, there is no hard drive. That means no downloading new game demos, movies or playing those few games that require the use of the hard drive (there are only...2 but it could become an increasing trend). The low cost however is what I love about this machine because where it fails as a games console it excels as a media machine. In my personal home network I have a server which holds all of my movies and music which I can stream over my network. The lack of built in wi-fi hampers this but if you want smooth streaming you would most likely use ethernet anyways. To build a similar machine would cost a little bit more and honestly, it just wouldnt be as pretty or have the ability to play the odd game like the 360 arcade does. I would definately recommend this to someone who is comfortable with networks and media streaming, not for someone who wants the premium gaming expirience
