Date of Review: Jul 30, 2009
The Bottom Line: Overall, this game is highly recommended for both adults and kids. Easy to use and understand and a blast to play. I love those crazy cars!
I love computer games and I love the movie cars, so naturally I had to give this game a whirl. It was just as fun as I hoped it would be. This game is great for both kids and adults. A must have for all game lovers.
This game works for both IBM and Mac computers. The game is similar to the movie in that young rookie race car Lighting McQueen battles his way to victory to win the Piston Cup. In this official game of the movie, you will find McQueen at home with his buddies in Radiator Springs, training for the new season.
This game features all the loveable characters from the movie, and has various different playing modes, but the most important mode is the story mode. This mode features 30 levels and associated cut scenes that talks about the whole season from McQueen's first dream of a race in Radiator Springs to the final Piston Cup. Throughout most of the game, you are in control of Lighting McQueen, although sometimes you get control of the other characters, ten in all. As you explore, you can access different levels, each level being a race of some sort or a mini-game. If you complete any of these levels successfully, meaning a top three finish or better, more levels will open as well as game areas and abilities.
The races themselves vary in location and number of competitors. The first few races are really easy and then they slowly get harder. They are held on actual race circuits and are different then Pinston Cup races and the other races, and it also includes a pit-stop game, where you help Luigi perform a pit stop as quickly as possible. On the open road you can do all sorts of cool tricks that you can't do in the Piston Cup races.
The disc also includes mini games. One of these games you drive backwards chasing speeding cars as the sheriff. There is also a tractor tipping game and one where you collect post cards.
Changing gears is easy. You just accelerate, break, power slide, and crash yourway around. The best part is you can't die! How sweet is that? The longer version of the game is for adults and the shorter version is for kids. There is an arcade mode where you can play any game that you've already unlocked in story mode and a multi-player challenge mode.
The graphics, sound, music, and interface are all really good and clear.
Overall, this game is highly recommended for both adults and kids. Easy to use and understand and a blast to play. I love those crazy cars!
