Buying this game is a SIN

Date of Review: Sep 30, 1999

Sin. Nothing else in the history of games has managed to gather enough hype and then nearly kill its fans with the garbage that is this game. Nothing I can say in this article will even come close to the true vivid description of how much this game sucks.

"Sin" starts you off as Blade, a security official assigned to a case where a miracle-drug named "Vanity" has been questioned in the disappearances of people and appearances of deranged mutants that stalk the darkened streets of a sprawling metropolis. Fairly basic storyline. Find answers, save the day, and the babe if there is one. Unfortunately, this particular babe is a villianous bitch, the one behind all the mischief that you're supposed to be investigating. I'm sure everyone knows how deep a game can be buried by a twist like this. If this was the only shortcoming in the game, I could live with it. However...

"Sin" falls short and flat on its face in every category. The weapons are ineffective and uninspired. The story is unoriginal. The game crashes more times a day than TWA and Valuejet do in a lifetime. The sound is faulty, the animation jerky, and the voice-acting gruesome (this is before and after the patch was released). You'd think that after all this roasting I'd be would have concluded that "Sin" is the most crap-tacular game in the history of EVER. Well, I must grudgingly admit, there are a few redeeming qualities to the game.

That was the only good thing I have to say "Sin", because the redeeming qualities are so unbelievably idiotic they're hilarious. The level design is top-notch, but that's not saying much since this game's developer is Ritual, a company that designs add-on packs for various shooters. The enemy AI is a plus, not because it's good, but because the reactions and tactics of the enemy are so stupid that they got me laughing in amazement. What do you do when a cop bursts in with a large bazooka? RUN IN CIRCLES OF COURSE. MAYBE IF YOU ANNOY THE COP ENOUGH THEY'LL JUST GIVE UP AND PLAY "BLOOD 2" INSTEAD.

Sin is one of the most disappointing titles in the history of gaming, as well as the most disturbing. How in hell could Ritual release something like this? Even with the patches, anybody with loads of patience can't handle the game. The only reason it was released early was to try and beat "Half-Life" in a feeble attempt to try and dominate the first-person shooter realm. Avoid this loser at all costs.
