Author's Review
I have owned this satnav for about ten months. I have used it successfully in the UK, France and Spain. A great advantage has been finding my way around local roads when arriving close to my destination as well as when departing an unfamiliar area. It also provides useful reassurance on the longer parts of journeys.
Sometimes it is necessary to use common sense when the device gives clearly incorrect information (where new roads have been built but not in the satnav database).
My wife is hugely relieved that she no longer has to study maps in the car, and all the reasons for our previous arguments have gone and I no longer need to stop the car to study the road atlas! We never get lost. Sometimes, in spite of local knowledge, the device insists on returning to its preferred route for several miles before giving up and recalculating the route. The feature that allows alternate routes omitting motorways for instance is very useful.
There are a few niggles, such as the vocal instructions abroad are obviously constructed from English syllabic sounds which makes them, at best, barely comprehensible and at worst, jibberish. Also, I have uploaded corrections which have not appeared in my software updates.
Overall, the device makes driving in unfamiliar places much easier and takes 90% of the stress out of navigation. However, I still keep a road atlas in the car for backup.
