I upgraded from the SD550, which was a great little camera.
As for picture quality, it wasn't half bad. I was first worried about the potential for noise with such a high mega pixel, but I haven't experienced it. What I was impressed...

First of all, this Canon SD 990 is built beautifully. It is a highwater mark among the current Canon lineup (along with the G10 obviously). The metal body feels very solid and luxurious in your hand.
