The DMC-FZ7 features a lens with a remarkable 12x optical zoom, equivalent to a 36 to 432mm lens on a 35mm film camera. A film camera with an optical zoom this powerful would be so big and heavy, you couldn't handle it with one hand. However, the DMC-FZ7 is small, lightweight and easy to handle. It also has Panasonic's Extended Optical Zoom. While causing minimal deterioration by using the center part of the high resolution CCD, this function magnifies the image to give you total zoom power of 16.5x1. The DMC-FZ7 features a large, 2.5" diagonal LCD and the Power LCD function. The pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD increases the brightness level of the live image on the LCD, which greatly facilitates shooting in low lighting. Simply touch the Power LCD button and the display becomes about 40% brighter for easier viewing on sunny days. Less

The G1’s compact size can be attributed to its electronic full-time Live View Finder, as opposed to a conventional optical viewfinder. The electronic Live View Finder, with an impressive and high-resolution 1,440,000-dot equivalent, allows the user to shoot the exact image the camera sees while also displaying information about the camera’s settings through the view finder. The G1 also features a clever built-in eye sensor, so the camera can detect when the user is nearing the view finder and automatically switches off the LCD, thus conserving battery life. Also, the Live View Finder has a large 1.4x (0.7x on a 35mm equivalent) magnification and when using the G1 in manual focus mode, the frame in the view finder or LCD will enlarge by 5x or 10x (can adjust using the dial). MY DREAM CAMERA!!!

by lisah3233 , Mar 11, 2007
Pros: Flash recovery time short, pop up flash, easy menu settings
Cons: Lens cap needs a holder to keep in place, some aberration. (sp?), short lived battery
The Bottom Line: Awesome camera, great price! You can't go wrong with an easy to use camera that takes spectacular pictures. Even greater for a mom or dad.

Excellent Camera

by mdbrown , Mar 17, 2007
Pros: Huge feature set, great lens, super zoom, opt. stabilization
Cons: Overly aggressive noise reduction, no zoom during movies, low res LCD
The Bottom Line: Great features that can compensate for the noise reduction and a great lens. I am extremely pleased with this camera.

Review: I will preface this review with the statement that I am not a seasoned photographer but I have had quite a few digital cameras over the last 7 years. This is my 2nd "superzoom" camera, the first being a Fujifilm S3100. This camera surpasses the Fuji...
